Birthday Week - Drew Turns 4 and Isla Turns 6

It was birthday week last week in the Skene household.  We started the week by making posters for both Drew and Isla as they both were Stars/Student of the Week at their schools:
First up was Drew's birthday on Wednesday.  This year was the year of the Ninja Turtle.  Drew is obsessed.  He wanted Ninja Turtle cupcakes to bring to school so I took his Ninja Turtle Stickers, stuck them on a toothpick, stuck them in the cupcakes.  Luckily this satisfied him.

After dinner at Lulu's we went home and opened his presents:

Ninja Turtles where everywhere!

Friday was Isla's birthday and she also had to bring a snack to school.  Since they don't like them to bring treats to school (which I totally get because how can you teach 23 kindergartners hyped up on sugar?) for their birthday I tried to find a fun special birthday snack.  It didn't take me long to find it (thank you Google) and I think they turned out well:
Later that afternoon Ryan and I were invited to Isla's presentation at school for her Star of the Week.  It was so cute to watch her explain her poster, share pictures and answer all her classmates questions.  She did very well and make me a very proud Momma.  Later that evening she opened her gifts:

And then we went to the Roosevelt Market party that had a bounce house and ice cream:
What more could you ask for on your birthday?

Then on Saturday afternoon we did a combined birthday party with their friends (which I will do as long as they will let me get away with it) at a nearby park.

Drew was soooo excited for his party.  I think maybe even more than his actual birthday:
Crazy boy!  He got his Ninja Turtle cake and Isla had her Frozen cake:

After the party, to celebrate being a Mom for six years, my parents watched the kids while I went to the BSU game with these people:

Needless to say I only made it until half time.  It was a long week and I was very tired, but I love my babies so much and they make the stress worth it.  I am so proud of them and feel honored to be their Mother.

Ryan's Birthday and Another Trip to the Zoo

After we got back from Atlanta we celebrated Ryan's birthday with the kiddos and my Mom.  We decided to get Ryan an ice cream cake for his birthday and I think the kids were more excited than him about the cake:

I think Isla got a little cold while eating it:

The next day we went back to the Zoo because we had so much fun the last time we were there.  This time we actually go to feed the giraffe, which is something that Isla has been wanting to do for a long time. Silly kids waiting in the long line to see the giraffe:

Of course Isla got a little shy when it was her turn and decided to let Drew do all the feeding.  Typical Drew jumped right in and laughed the entire time:

Hotlanta

Ryan somehow won a free trip down to Atlanta to see Boise State play Ole Miss (okay I do know how he won, but it's a long story).  Luckily for us, I have a sister and mom who love to come and watch my kids.  It was a quick trip, only three days, but we had a lot of fun.  Too bad we didn't come home with a win.

Before the game we went to the College Football Hall of Fame:
ESPN was broadcasting live so we tried to get on TV and succeeded as Ryan's uncle called us and told us he could see us!:

I know we were there to support the Broncos, but we all know I'm a UW fan at heart:
Ryan before the tailgate:
They actually had the players walk through the tailgate area before the game and I was quite impressed with the amount of BSU fans that showed up:

Our seats were pretty good:

First Day of Kindergarten - Isla

This was a rough day for me.  My baby's first day of kindergarten.  Seriously, where did the time go? She was definitely ready for this day and has transitioned remarkably well.  I'm so excited for her to make new friends and learn new things.

At the house already to go:
Daddy walking his little girl to her first day of school:
Waiting in line for the bell and taking it all in:

These were taken right before she walked in to class.  I took one right before I asked her to smile at me (this one kills me):

She then put her game face on and gave me a smile:
Then it was back to looking a little bit apprehensive:
Saying the pledge of allegiance:
Yes, I was one of those Mom's that snuck in and took a picture of her kid in the classroom.  After this picture I went home and bawled like a baby.  This parenting thing is rough sometimes.

Final Days of Summer

August went pretty quickly around here.  We ended our final days of summer with swim lessons and a trip to the fair.

Isla and Drew took swim lessons all summer and made great progress.  Drew actually advanced so far that he made it into Isla's class.  I am proud to say that Isla can now swim on her belly and her back from one side of the pool to the other.

Here are some pictures from their last day of swim lessons:

Isla takes it so seriously, while Drew has a smile on his face the entire time:

I was able to convince Ryan to take the kids to the fair this year.  Of course we chose the hottest day, but the kids had fun before we ran out of tickets and money (I'll have to remember to mortgage our house before we go next year because holy crow the fair is expensive):
