New York, New York

After the kids birthday week Ryan and I jetted out of town for a two week vacation.  This was the first time we had been on a vacation with just ourselves for more than four days since our honeymoon. I think it was time.

Our first stop was New York City. Ryan and I were both New York virgins so we had no idea what to expect.  After our delayed flight and 4 am arrival time, we woke up late and I opened our hotel windows and was greeted with this view:
So far, so good New York.  We spent the day walking around Central Park and visiting a couple of museums (The Frick Collection and MOMA):

That night we went to a concert in Central Park:
Hello Carrie Underwood. When we found out they weren't serving alcohol there we didn't stay long.  Come on, we are by ourselves with no kids.  So we took the subway, much to Ryan's dismay, and went to a cool old pub called McSorley's:
And then wandered around Times Square at two in the morning:
The next day we went to visit the 9/11 memorial (via the subway . . again - side note: I have a fascination with public transportation, weird I know, but I totally figured out the subway system in New York in under a couple hours. Winning.):

After our visit to the 9/11 museum (which is a must for everyone - very well done, but leaves you in a somber mood) we went to brunch at the Tipsy Pig:
We loved this place and will go back whenever we return.  We had a nice little spot by a window where we had our first celebrity sighting (Hilary Duff) who totally caught us taking a picture of her:
Busted.  I felt so bad after that.  Needless to say she didn't stay long at the Tipsy Pig probably because she was not really feeling the weirdos from Idaho sitting at the window and taking her picture.

Our last day we went to the top of the Rock to take in the awesome views:

For the short time we were there we fell in love with the city and will definitely be going back.  I feel like there was so much else to see, but it was difficult to fit it all in during our 2 and 1/2 days there.  See you soon NYC!
